THE ROYAL BRITISH CLUB GOLFING SOCIETY

Representing the ROYAL BRITISH CLUB Golfers

Captain's Welcome

Captain’s Welcome

The Royal British Club Golfing Society (RBCGS) is a very social and active golfing community comprising a very diverse membership.  We are one of the oldest golfing societies in Portugal and have been here for over 51 years with a rich history and heritage.

The society boasts over 80 playing members and around 40 non-playing (social members) and is open to all Royal British Club members with a valid World Handicap Index.  We host monthly sponsored tournaments, generally on the first Wednesday of every month,  as well as society tournaments such as the Putting Competition and a new Pairs Matchplay that will run from the beginning of the year with a champion / champions being announced at a gala dinner in December.

The society generally plays at Estoril Golf Club with early morning tee-offs but we do host events at other clubs on occasion. Each tournament is followed by a prize giving / awards ceremony over a lunch or dinner on the day of the tournament, so members and players can socialize and build friendships both on and off the course.

The society also participates in tournaments against other local golfing societies as below:

  • The annual match between RBCGS and Associação de Barmen, followed by a sardine lunch at a local ‘tasca’. For those members lucky enough to be on the team, it’s a hotly fought Matchplay event.
  • The Tri-Society Trophy – the annual battle between three local golf societies: RBCGS, Tagus Golf Society and PINGS. Teams of 12 take on each other and the course but come together for post-match drinks and lunch, when the Trophy is awarded.
  • The Bowlers and Berets Competition pitting the Union des Français a l’Etranger versus the Royal British Club Golfing Society.

I wish all members an enjoyable, successful season and look forward to seeing you on the first Tee or at the 19th Hole!!

Warm regards

Raj
